FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 2, 2009 - Port Neches, Texas:
The F1 ChampBoat Series presented by AMSOIL tour began today with an exciting qualifying heat race where four-time series champion, Terry Rinker of the AMSOIL Racing Team took the provisional pole for Sunday’s AMSOIL Grand Prix in the South Texas coastal town of Port Neches.

Rinker took fastest qualifier position and then led flag to flag in Saturday’s heat event. Miami’s Shaun Torrente picked up right where he left off last season as the brides maid taking the second place position behing Rinker, but did so in a dazzling style as he dove under Rinker in the final corner of the race, but was just a nose short across the stripe giving Rinker the pole.

“Were happy, the AMSOIL crew and boat performed flawlessly today. So I feel like the edge has been lifted as you never know where you stand after the winter against this very competitive field. We got a long race tomorrow, so we’ll need to focus on our race setup and hope to come out on top again tomorrow for AMSOIL”, stated a jubilant Terry Rinker

Shaun Torrente put on a thrilling race to the finish line. “I dove down under Terry in the last corner and we bang boats a little, but Terry had the angle down the straightway to the flag so it wasn’t enough. The second spot is a good place to start for  tomorrow, so we’ll focus on winning the race”, stated the talented Floridian.

Third in line was five-time series champion Tim Seebold. Seebold Sports has a new look this season with the absence of Bud Light and still is seeking sponsorship. “ We’ll take it, we weren’t even sure if we were racing until a week ago, so I am extremely happy with the boat and the crew as we through this race together. We have more we can get out of the boat for tomorrow, so we’ll be ready to race”, states Tim Seebold.

Fourth place went the ever improving Johnson Racing motor of Michael Shubert, the hometown hero. Shubert ran a solid day right on Tim Seebold’s roster tail, giving the Sea-Way Johnson program a he boost with its progress.
