EVANSVILLE, Indiana – Sunday, June 21, 2009 – Shaun Torrente for the second straight time in the 2009 F1-ChampBoat season took a win and is now very close to emulating his feat of a season ago when he won three straight at the start of the campaign as he notched his sixth career victory in front of thousands of heat soaked fans along the mighty Ohio River at the Evansville Freedom Festival.

The six turn 1.25 mile race course which featured 113 degree heat indexs had three different drivers drop out of the race at the same critical area which forced officials to re-start the race three different times in the fist half of the race playing right into the 29 year-old's hands as he rocketed his Speedmaster Marine/Talon Boats Gran Prix hull to the front with perfect hole shots each time holding off pursuers to come away with a 14 second victory at the end.

“The boat ran great all day,” said Shaun. “We had it set up perfectly and it just got us through the right hander the way we wanted it and made for a great day of racing for the whole team. Chris Fairchild and I had a great race back and forth for the first 12 laps before he had a problem with his engine and eventually finished eighth. We are ready for Bay City and hope to do the same thing we did there a year ago, win!”

rinker-evansville09.jpgRunner-up for the second straight race was the defending series champion in Terry Rinker, as the Florida driver running the Amsoil sponsored boat struggled through the right hander and spun out at one time to fight mightly back from eighth place to eventually take second.

“We have made some moves with the handling that aren't quite working out yet, but we should have them fixed by this week and be ready for Bay City next weekend,” said the 2008 champion. “We have had some wild moments at the River Roar event and look forward for a win this time around.”

Taking third for the third time in his career was Tennessee driver Jeff Sheperd driving for Edwards Concrete as he came from fourth off the start only to drift backwards and recover with a great re-start to hold off a charging rookie driver Jose Mendana Jr. from Miami, Florida who took his best finish ever with a fourth.

Canadian Brian Venton in his Jenkinson Telecom Gran Prix started fifth and finished fifth for his second top five finish of the season for the Bomanville, Ontario driver. Veteran Lynn Simburger of Illinois was 6th in his Playcraft Boats Seebold hull two laps back while five time Champion Tim Seebold had troubles for his second straight race coming home in seventh three laps back after being as high as second at one time in the race in his Seebold Sports Racing hull.

Mike Schubert of Woodlands, Texas had the only result for the Sea-Way Marine group starting seventh and dropping out on the 12th lap and being classified ninth. His teammate, the much anticipated U.I.M. F1 Team Abu Dhabi driver Ahmad Al Hameli didn't even start the event with engine problems keeping him sidelined while waiting for his other teammate Thani Al Qamzi with his new boat to arrive in time for next weeks race in Michigan.

With two straight victories Shaun Torrente now leads the championship ahead of Terry Rinker by 37 points (1175-1138) with Brian Venton third with 1013 and 162 behind. So as we head towards next weekends third round in the Championship at the Annual Bay City River Roar can the driver from Miami, Florida continue his winning streak for a third straight event? He's won before in Bay City but the Saginaw River is always rough and he'll have to stay focused on every lap. The 3rd Round of the 2009 F1-ChampBoat Series will kick off next weekend with F1, F2 and F3 boats filling what should be another classic event in Central Michigan.
