POWERBOAT RACING LOSES A PIONEER!

ST. LOUIS, MO: July 6, 2009 - Ernest “Bebe” Crum passed away Friday after a long battle with cancer.  Bebe (71), who retired in 2005, was a pioneer race boat builder who worked with the Seebold racing operation for over 34 years.  Bebe was a specialized carpenter who designed and built over 500 race boats which includes virtually every F1 hull the Seebold’s ever raced, several in-boards, kneel downs and world record running offshore boats as well. His Seebold race boats won dozens of championships, numerous speed records and of course launched the stellar careers of Bill, Mike and Tim Seebold.

From Bill Seebold...“BeBe built a lake home for Lynne and I in 1970, he and his wife Karen have known my wife Lynne since she was 14 years old. I was racing for Mercury Marine and wanted to start building my own line of race boats, so in 1974 Bebe and I started the race boat business where we built boats for drivers all over the world. He was like a brother to me and he never missed a race in 30 years, I sure will miss him”.

From Tim Seebold...”Bebe was not only part of our family, he was the backbone of our family business. As a kid I watched his great work ethic and he taught me an awful lot, not just the craft of building world class race boats, but being a man. Bebe built most of my race boats and his designs still live today in our current boats. I will miss Bebe, but I have great comfort knowing he is now hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa”!

From Mike Seebold...”I have known BeBe my whole life and he was a very special person. He was a dedicated man who worked hard, loved his family, and had a special gift to build anything out of wood, especially race boats! He built all of my race boats and I know that I won races with all of them. BeBe was more than just a friend to me, he was family. I’m glad that I had the privilege to have known him and that he was a part of my life. I will always remember him”!
